Daniel David Ntanda Nsereko is a Judge of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), Appeals Chamber, since March 2012. Prior to his appointment to the STL, Judge Nsereko served for four years at the International Criminal Court (ICC), Appeals Division; and served as the Division’s President between April 2009 and April 2010. Before his election to the ICC, Judge Nsereko was Professor of Law at the University of Botswana and served as Head of the Department of Law for eight years. He has also taught at the Faculty of Law of Makerere University in Uganda and at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. As a professor and scholar he specialized in the areas of Public International Law, International Criminal Law, International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian. He has published extensively in these areas. He is a member of the editorial boards of several international legal periodicals. He is an advocate and has practiced law in Uganda. Before his election as Judge he was included on the List of Counsel eligible to represent accused persons and victims before the ICC. He also served on the Advisory Committee of the War Research Office of the American University Law School in Washington DC. He also served on the Delegation of the Government of Uganda to sessions of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute and to meetings of the Special Working Group on the Crime of Aggression. He holds the LLB degree from the University of East Africa, MJC in Comparative Jurisprudence from Howard University and LLM and JSD from New York University.
